9th UN Tourism World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism in Bahrain
On 18 and 19 November 2024, Bahrain hosted the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Global Forum on Gastronomic Tourism.
The enormous potential of gastronomic tourism to diversify local economies, creating new products, activities and jobs, was reiterated. This sector can act as a lever for sustainable economic development.
Public-private partnerships: The importance of public-private partnerships to develop integrated strategies for food tourism, through dedicated working groups or task forces, was highlighted.
Authenticity and culinary heritage: It is essential to map and enhance the gastronomic authenticity of a territory, rediscovering culinary traditions, local recipes and knowledge related to food.
Value of Awards and Recognition: Awards such as the “50 Best Restaurants” and other industry accolades are generating significant value for destinations, chefs and restaurants, strengthening the global reputation of gastronomy.
Sustainability of food events : Strategies must include sustainability as a central pillar, promoting environmentally friendly events that enhance local resources.
