Meetings with IOC

A delegation of the Koperattiva Produtturi taz-Zebbug Limited held intensive dicussions with officials of the International Olive Council in Madrid between the 19 and 21st November, 2024. The discussions focused on the Genetic Resources Project this is working to identify the traits of the BIDNI cultivar which may be added to the gene bank of the IOC. The delegation was composed of the President Mr. Jimmy Magro and Management Committee member Mrs. Joyce Muscat.
The IOC team agreed to work with KPZ in holding a workshop in Malta to expand the research being carried out by CREA as the contractors of KPZ for the scientific research.
The delegation also discussed the issues concerning the laboratory for olive oil testing and the setting up of a tasting panel for Malta.
The distribution of extra virgin olive to school students was discussed at another meeting and information of other similar projects was obtained in order to learn from other countries.
The delegation was provided with the opportunity to visit olive groves and olive mills as well as a cultural museum based on olive oil production. The delegation was also invited to take part in the commemoration of the event to mark the World Olive Tree Day.
